The Importance Of Understanding Panic Attacks

Panic attacks are much more common than most people think. Millions and millions all over the world suffer from them. They can be a devastating issue in both personal and professional areas. They can cause a multitude of symptoms, physical and psychological, that can produce paralyzing effects.

It’s therefore very important to understand what panic attacks are. Can they be controlled? Yes, they can. The bad news is that there is no magic pill, but the good news is that it can be done. If you want to control them and eventually cure them, you must understand them first, you must know what they are.

Okay then, what are they? Or better yet, why are they? This may sound strange, but in essence they protect us. They are our inborn biological alarm system. Everyone is born with it, it’s a part of what is known as the fight or flight response. This is a very basic response that uses a variety of physical and psychological mechanisms.

And because of that there is no magic pill, no pharmaceutical solutions. A pill must be specific, it must affect a certain mechanism or area, but this is impossible with panic attacks, because they are all over the place. They use some very basic systems and cannot be targeted.

This basically means that if you want to shut this alarm system off, you must shut off yourself. And that’s certainly not a long term solution. This is what most anti-anxiety drugs do. They turn you into a zombie, which is certainly not how most people would want to live.

The thing to understand here is that this alarm system itself is actually not a problem. The fact that it triggers when it shouldn’t is the core of the issue. This is crucial to understand. It is the oversensitivity of the alarm that we have to deal with, not the alarm itself. So what do you do? You reprogram it.

It’s not going to be easy, but many people have tried it and were able to achieve success. It is a long term solution and definitely worth all the effort. So there you have it, there is a possibility for you to live a panic free live. Go for it.
