Remedies For Anxiety

1. Zazen. Zazen, or “mindfulness meditation” is a great way to look inside your mind and find out what’s going on to cause the anxiety. There’s no technique other than to sit quietly and focus on your thoughts as they surface to your head. Acknowledge the thought — don’t try to fight it — and say “thinking… thinking… thinking…” until the thought goes away and a new thought or sensation arises. If you’re starting to get a little bit of back pain, for example, say “pain… pain… pain…” until the thought of pain goes away. If your anxiety arises, acknowledge the thought or thoughts “anxiety… anxiety… anxiety…” and return to your breathing… rising falling… your breathing should be the focus of your meditation session… focus on the rising of the breath and the falling of the breath. Focus on the rising of the breath all the way through, then focus on the falling of the breath all the way through, with your mind in your gut as you breath. For full information on how to do zazen by a Buddhist monk, see the link at the bottom of the page.

Just make sure you don’t end up meditating too much — as in all day long… if you all you’re doing all day is meditating, you’re avoiding the cause of the aniety and that needs to be addressed. Though sometimes, a lot of meditation may be necessary for short periods of time to get your anxiety under control to begin with.

2. Keep your mind occupied. Get into a routine you’re satisfied with. Get into a routine that you enjoy. If you haven’t been in a routine in such a long time, then think of what you used to do and expand on that… or think of things you always wanted to do. Finally, you may have to accept that you’ll never achieve what you’ve always wanted to… or at least right now… you can’t achieve what you want. Maybe you just need to accept this.

3. If  you have severe anxiety you very likely need drugs to combat your problem, if only temporarily. In my experience, the best drugs for fighting anxiety is a specific combination of drugs including alcohol, kava, and phenibut. 1 drink of alcohol + 1 cup of kava + 600mg of phenibut will help. Another herb for anxiety is kratom… if you want, you can add 1 dose of kratom into the above for extra impact, but I’ve found that it’s usually unnecessary. Keep the kratom on hand for really bad anxiety or to help with a lack of motivation. Take this combination up to four times a day. Wait six hours between doses.

Notes: For health reasons you may want to cut the alcohol dosage in half. And if the phenibut gets to be too much, feel free to cut that in half as well. As always, tell your doctor what you’re taking, and make sure you taper off the phenibut and alcohol over a period of weeks when you finish taking it to avoid withdrawal. Never suddenly stop taking these and never combine doses of these drugs, as they all potentiate each other. This means you could get an overdose at a much lower dose than you could if just one drug caused all these effects.

Best Herbal Remedies For Anxiety And Panic Attacks

Over the last couple years of my life I have been developing more and more panic and anxiety attacks due to the amount of stress in my every day life, and since I am into alternative medicines I like to use natural herbal remedies to help relieve my stress from my every day life so I do not have panic or anxiety attacks. For those of you out there suffering from panic and anxiety attacks due to stress, or even depression and sadness, I have found and done some research, and even tried myself some of the best herbal remedies out there to help ease away panic and anxiety attacks.

The first herbal medicine I will tell you a little bit about that seems to help with mild panic and anxiety attacks caused by stress and depression is St. John’s Wort. A few years ago I had some mild depression that caused me to be sad all the times, and made me really fatigue and annoyed at life in general. I didn’t want to go on any prescription drugs because they tend to have some serious side effects such as becoming addicted to them. Well at the time I was studying herbal medicine and discovered St. John’s Wort and asked an herbalist about the herb and did some research. It turns out St. John’s Wort was used to help ease away mild depression because it contains chemicals in it called hyperforin and hyperacid, which helps cause a placebo effect causing less serotonin being released into a person body, which basically helps them to become happy again. St. John’s Wort comes in the form of teas and herbal supplements pill that can be taken daily to help ease panic and anxiety attacks, however I would recommend you talk to your doctor first before taking this herbal remedy to help ease your panic and anxiety attacks that are cause by your mild depression and stress because it may interact with a drug you may already be on. Some other things to think about when taking St. John’s Wort is it does contain some side effects like if you take to much of it, it can be toxic, and make your skin and eyes sensitive to lights. I know St. John’s Wort worked well for me, but after awhile of using it, it kind of began to upset my stomach and I had become really sensitive to sunlight, but over all it did help ease my mild depression and eased away my panic and anxiety attacks.

The second herbal medicine I will tell you about and love to us all the time when I am simply stressed out and having very small panic and anxiety attacks is lavender. Lavender has a nice floral relaxing aroma to it that helps promote calmness just by smelling the aroma of the lavender herb itself. The form you can get lavender in are organic lavender essential oils to use in candle burners and baths, and in you can pick them as flowers and place them in a vase to help lightly scent the air of your home or office with the nice light calming lavender aroma. You can also find lavender in bubble bath salts and liquids and in body lotions to wear. I know I personally keep soy lavender candles and hand lotion around so when I am feeling a little bit stressed out I can light a candle or put some lavender hand cream on so I can breath in a nice calming lavender aroma that helps me relax again and focus on what I am doing in my life instead of what is stressing me out. However, I wouldn’t recommend you use lavender internally because it can be very toxic.

The third herbal medicine I recently started using for my server anxiety attacks and depression is Kava. Kava is from the root of a kava plant which releases chemicals such as pyrones and kavalactones that help relax the body, mind, and spirit. The forms you can get kava in are supplement pills and teas. The form I prefer to take is the tea form of kava because it works faster and is a lot safer than taking the supplements. The kava tea I like to drink is Yoga Kava Stress Relief Tea. The way I make it is simply by boiling some water on top of my stove and than by simply pouring the boiling water over a kava tea bag in my tea cup. After I let the kava tea steep and brew for about 10 minutes to make sure I get all the calming and relaxing chemicals out of the tea bag, and than I simply sip on the tea until my server anxiety attacks go away. However, kava does have some server side effects to it such as it can cause liver damage when you take to much of it, and does interact with pain killers such as Aleve, Tylenol, Aspirin, and Excedrin. I highly recommend you talk to a doctor or herbalist before taking this herb to relieve your server anxiety attacks caused by your bad depression. I will say that kava has been my life saver lately for my bad anxiety attacks and depression. When I drink a cup of kava tea I feel immediate relief, but it does leave my mouth feeling tingly and numb. It also seems to leave with a light airy feeling that makes me feel like I have been drinking so I wouldn’t recommend driving a car after drinking a cup of kava tea. I will also say it is a wonderful alternative medicine to take for depression and sever anxiety attacks, but you really need to take it in moderation whish is why you should visit your doctor and ask him if it is okay for you to take and what is the best dosage for you. I know I weigh about 110 pounds and 1 cup of kava tea is plenty for me.

The forth and last herbal remedy I like to use when I am suffering from insomnia and panic attacks and can’t seem to fall asleep at nighttime is valerian root. Valerian root is basically a natural tranquilizer that releases a chemical called valerian acid and helps reduce the amount of stress and anxiety a person is feeling at nighttime so they can fall asleep faster. Valerian root also can be used in small doses during the day to help reduce depression and anxiety symptoms such as sadness, restlessness, and irritability. I know I take valerian root before I go to bed when I can’t seem to fall asleep because my anxiety is really bad, or my mind is wondering and keeps thinking negatively, and when I simply can’t seem to fall asleep. The forms valerian root come in are teas, supplement pills, and liquids. The form I like to take and find the most effective is valerian root supplement pills from GNC. I usually take to supplement pills before bed time and I usually fall asleep with 20 minutes after taking the valerian supplements. If you want to try valerian you should make sure it is safe for you to take by asking your doctor first. I really haven’t found or had any real side effects from taking valerian root except for it can make my really thirty and drowsy at times. Another sometimes small side effect from taking valerian root is upset tummies.

So, there you have it a list of some of the best herbal remedies to take when you are suffering from anxiety, panic attacks, stress, and depression. I know all four of these herb real remedies have worked well for me over the last few years, and I hope those of you looking for herbal remedies to help ease away your anxiety, panic attacks, stress, and depression have found some you can use too. I wish you all the best of luck with easing away your anxiety, panic attacks, stress and depression so you can get back to enjoying your life really soon.

Home Remedies to Overcome Anxiety

There are many reasons why a person might not want to take prescription medications for anxiety. It can range from anywhere from fear of physical or mental dependency on the drugs, not having the proper medical insurance to cover them, unpleasant side effects that might be experienced or simply the fact that the anxiety is not severe enough to warrant them.

Luckily, there are some home remedies that you can use to help get you get through your anxious rough spots.

The following are some effective home remedies for anxiety:

Meditation and/or Deep Breathing Exercises

One of the side effects of anxiety is the inability to shut down the worried thoughts constantly going through your mind. The catch-22 to this situation is the more these thoughts ramble, the more anxious you will get which puts you on the merry go round called Crazyville. One of the most natural and effective home remedies you can use to reduce anxiety is to meditate or practice deep breathing exercises. There are literally thousands of sites that can help you come up with the perfect meditation and deep breathing exercises to help calm yourself down in as little as 15 minutes. There are even free videos that will guide you step-by-step, so this is probably one of the first home remedies you should try to get immediate relief.

Exercise

Regular exercise is a great natural and healthy way to work off extra stress and anxiety. Now, this does not mean that you have to join a gym or start lifting weights. Even something as simple as a brisk walk for at least 10 blocks a day can help immensely in clearing your head and lifting your spirits. Better yet, listen to your favorite music on an Ipod and daydream while walking, giving yourself a good mental break from your problems and worries. You will feel like a different person when you get back.

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy can also work wonders in reducing anxiety naturally. Orange peel is known to have a very calming effect on the nervous system as well as vanilla, lavendar, rose, sandlewood and chamomile. You can buy these in various forms. Most drug stores and supermarkets sell candles made from these scents or you can purchase oil diffusers and the oil scent that seems to have the most relaxing effect on your nervous system. Get into the habit of using these scents in a room where you can relax as much as possible away from stress such as your bedroom. Combined with meditation and/or deep breathing exercises you will feel like a different person.

Teas

Luckily there are also teas you can buy that have naturally calming effects. Green tea and other teas containing L-Theanine work best. Also try feverfew herb, pre-made Valerian tea or powdered valerian root to brew your own.

Take Vitamin B6 and B12 Supplements

If there is any supplemental vitamins you should add to your diet to help with anxiety these two vitamins are it. As a matter of fact, anxiety and stress are common symptoms of a severe vitamin B6 deficiency, so this might be your problem in the first place. Other common symptoms of Vitamin B6 deficiency are irritability, cramping, fatigue, dry skin, hair loss and dandruff. If you find yourself suffering from any or all of these symptoms – this might be the first place to start. B12 is another important vitamin that can really help in reducing anxiety and stress. If you have not had any blood work done recently, now is the time to schedule an appointment to find out if you are deficient in these areas. A doctor can easily tell you if your counts are low and might even recommend B12 shots to help get you back on track as quickly as possible. There are many accounts of anxiety sufferers who felt like completely different people in as little as 2 weeks after having these shots or taking these supplements. Just be sure to check with a doctor first.

Try Niacinamide

Another member of the vitamin B family (B3 specifically) Niacinamide is also known to work wonders in reducing anxiety, most especially social anxiety. It is also said to be a wonderful sleep aid with little to no side effects. Research on the internet has shown that the recommended doses vary extremely, so this would be another quick question to ask your doctor before taking.

Valerian might help. To instantly calm you down a powder supplement called Calms by Peter Gillham (is magnesium) works really well but you have to be careful because too much magnesium can cause diarrhea.

What natural remedies work for panic attacks?

March 30th, 2011

Question by Amy R: What natural remedies work for panic attacks?
My 15 year old daughter is having panic attacks which include feeling faint, becoming very hot, vision blurriness and fear. She recently was given glasses by our optometrist that are basically “placebos” because she didn’t need glasses but was convinced she did. I got some herbal supplements but I am afraid of the prescription medications for her. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
