How To Find Effective Anxiety Disorder Treatments

Article by Sammy Kay

Anxiety disorders are suffered by more than forty million Americans. Examples of these disorders are panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, social anxiety disorder, phobias, and generalized anxiety disorders. Many of these disorders are debilitating to the sufferers, interfering with both their personal and professional lives. Thankfully, there are many anxiety treatments out there.

If you think that you suffer from an anxiety disorder, the first person you should see is your family doctor. Tests are necessary to make sure that there isn’t another medical condition responsible for the symptoms. Once it’s determined that the symptoms are the result of an anxiety disorder, the next step is to seek out a mental health professional.

Anxiety treatment can include medications. While medications are not enough to cure anxiety disorders, they can help the sufferer deal with the symptoms. Antidepressants alter the chemistry of the brain. Most begin to work on some indicators of anxiety disorder immediately; however, it can take up to six weeks for the full effects to be felt.

SSRIs, or selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, are also antidepressants. They help brain cells communicate with each other by increasing the amount of serotonin in the brain. Serotonin is involved in the regulation of learning, sleep, and moods. They have been shown to be very effective in anxiety treatment. Beta-blockers, usually used to treat heart conditions, can also be prescribed for anxiety treatment. They can help prevent the physical conditions which accompany most anxiety disorders.

Medications are used to help control the signs of anxiety disorders while the patient receives psychotherapy. Cognitive-behavioral therapy, or CBT, helps anxiety disorder sufferers change the way they think and how they react to anxiety-inducing situations. For example, a person with OCD who is anxious about germs and ritualistically washes his or her hands many times a day is taught to wait for longer periods of time in between such activities.

Those with other phobias or disorders learn how to face their fears through this anxiety treatment. The CBT therapist accompanies the anxiety disorder patient through role-playing to actual encounters. CBT therapists also teach relaxation techniques such as deep breathing.

CBT only works when the anxiety disorder sufferer is ready to undertake the challenge of facing his or her fears. It must be specific to their individual anxiety disorder. This anxiety treatment usually lasts about three months. It may incorporate group therapy.

Anxiety treatment is often more effective when it includes support groups. These groups may include resources from the internet or your local member of the clergy. These should not be a replacement for a certified therapist.

Exercise can be a great addition to anxiety treatments. It boosts the brain’s natural creation of serotonin. Meditation has also been found to enhance anxiety treatments, as it helps calm the physical symptoms of anxiety disorder.

Finally, family is a very important factor in anxiety treatment. Families should never trivialize the disorder of the sufferer. They can offer support but need to be careful not to enable the anxiety disorder patient.

4 Things To Do When You Find Out You Have Anxiety And Panic Symptoms

There are many symptoms to anxiety and panic attacks and everyone will experience them a little bit differently.  You may also experience the symptoms differently in unique situations.  Some anxiety and panic symptoms might include:

Elevated heart rate

Dizziness

Blurred vision

Dry mouth

Shaking hands

Headaches

Stomach ache

Blacking out

Like I said, everyone’s experience is different.

What can you do when you realize that you have anxiety and panic symptoms? Read – The more you know the less fearful you will be when the symptoms come on.  When you know that dizziness is a sign of an anxiety and you feel it coming on you can do what you need to do to stop it from progressing.  When you are aware of some of the things you can do to help yourself it is less scary and you will feel more in control.
Learn to relax – This isn’t something that comes naturally to most people and if  you are having anxiety and panic attacks it will be something you really need to work hard to learn.  Relaxation CD’s, meditation, music, reading, breathing techniques, self-talk, yoga – all of these are relaxations methods that work for some people.  Experiment and find out which one works best for you.
Get exercise – Exercise is about more than just staying in shape. When you exercise you release those feel good hormones and the more feel good hormones you have running through your body the better  you will feel and the less likely you are to feel anxiety.
Journal – Writing things down can be very helpful.  You can document your anxiety and panic attacks and record what you did to try to alleviate them.  What worked?  What didn’t?  What did you need to try a few times before it had any affect?  Who was with you?  Did they do anything that was helpful?  The more information you have recorded the more you will be able to figure out what is working and what isn’t.

Find Natural Relief From Depression And Anxiety

If you suffer from depression or anxiety, life might seem overwhelming at times. Depression can cause even minor problems to seem unbearable, so you might choose to ignore normal daily tasks and withdraw from those you love. Anxiety and panic attacks can cause insomnia, and you may feel helpless at times. Panic attacks can be very scary even when your body seems to be healthy otherwise.

Taking prescription medications can help both of these conditions, but many people don’t realize that there are natural ways to find relief as well. Learn about these healthy and affordable alternatives below.

The Stress Connection

Did you know that stress is deeply connected to many health conditions including depression and anxiety? Stress comes from many directions – work, family problems, or finances. Finding ways to relieve stress is important because it helps reduce your risks of depression and anxiety. Through exercise and either medication or a natural remedy, you can tremendously reduce your amount of daily stress and start living a happier, more fulfilling life.

Prescription Medications for Depression and Anxiety

Although there are many types of prescription medications that can help with depression or anxiety such as buspirone, tricyclic antidepressants, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, and benzodiazepines, these are not always the best remedy. There are several disadvantages to taking these types of medications. Some medications are very costly and may cause adverse sexual effects. They may be habit-forming, may cause insomnia or extreme fatigue, or may have cardiovascular risks.

Also, you might already be taking pharmaceutical medication for another health condition that could react with the depression or anxiety medication in an undesirable way. You should consult with your doctor to be sure the medications will not counteract one another.

Natural Alternatives

With a natural supplement, you might find relief from depression or anxiety without spending a fortune on doctor bills and prescription medications. Sometimes the answer can be as simple as taking a certain herbal remedy such as Amoryn or making minor changes to your diet. Studies with Amoryn, for example, have shown positive results for 90 percent of those with depression and 88 percent of those with anxiety. Amoryn is a natural antidepressant that boosts the brain’s natural capacity for happiness.

Seredyn is another natural supplement that helps relieve anxiety and panic attacks by calming you and giving you a sense of control as you go through the day.

Benefits of Natural Supplements

With natural supplements, you can enjoy relief while avoiding many of the unwanted side effects that can occur with prescription medications. These are not usually habit-forming and often produce positive results within a short period of time. You can now research these online to find the right herbs for you. If you suffer from severe depression or anxiety, share your findings with your physician to come up with a viable solution.

Don’t let depression and anxiety control your life. Take back control with natural remedies and start living once again!

While you’re asleep They’ll enter your skin The search for a new place where they will dwell They give their children A place to be born You won’t notice except for the smell Mysteriousness, researchers can’t explain The sorrow of this internal pain It’s burning stronger day by day Cure me, there must be a way Desperation, confused mind Never heard of a disease of this kind So tell me what can I do To leave this Hell I’m going through Human blood The perfect place Birth of descendants Creatures living In my veins, the horror Frightening, sickening The pain that I am bearing Begging, please get them Out of my body In the darkness They crawl on places Where you can’t see or hear them come Marching silently When it’s dawn they will be gone Human blood The perfect place Birth of descendants Creatures living In my veins, the horror Frightening, sickening The pain that I am bearing Begging, please get them Out of my body
