How to Determind Disorder Condition And Its Causes.

This condition, as well as the panic disorder condition, is tremendously complicated because it involves so much about a person. Different people have different reactions to the same stimuli, some people seem to be conditioned to react more strongly to some things than others. When children are abused sometimes they exhibit symptoms of panic attacks long before they reach adulthood or even make it into their teens. For the average layperson that would seem to be a conditioned response to start terror. Of course this is only one example out of many and not all panic attacks are the result of abuse. We will offer some general and specific information regarding the causes of panic attacks so you’ll have a better understanding.

Professionals in both the psychological and medical realms hold to the belief that anxiety induced hypersensitivity is a cause of panic attacks. External stressors or anxiety in other people can be more difficult for some people to handle. The connection is that panic attacks are often seen in people who are more sensitive to anxiety.

As the body responds to stress and anxiety in these circumstances, there is often a heightened fear for these people. On the other hand, it is interesting to note the contrast to those who are more focused on the environment, or external stimuli, that is the actual stressing event. In both circumstances there is an apparent difference in the psychological component.

There is also a related concept to consider if you are an anxiety sensitive person with a disposition to panic attacks. Some people have a tendency to adopt what is essentially a skewed perspective on external events. These same people also react the same way to internal events or feelings.

Clinically this condition is termed as “catastrophic misinterpretation”. For them, it is commonplace to feel that something will cause extreme problems. Basically, this belief leads to a panic attack, because their thoughts and imaginations get out of hand. Panic attacks and their symptoms then are underscored by the heavy psychological elements and components.

Bona fide medical conditions can cause panic attacks, though. Direct physical causation can be the cause, due to an event in the body. If you feel that you are having, or have had, a panic attack, then it is highly recommended to see your doctor. Some examples of medical issues that can cause a panic attack are: hyperthyroidism (not hypo), hypoglycemia, and some heart conditions related to improper valve closure. The cause of hyperthyroidism is an over-active thyroid. Hypoglycemia is defined by a chronic state of low blood sugar.

Understanding the causes of panic attacks is a continual process as not all of them are known, or understood fully. For those who suffer with this condition, this can lead to a great deal of frustration. Some help can also be found by seeking out treatment or an evaluation from a psychologist who specializes in panic attacks.

General Anxiety Disorder (GAD) Cause and Treatment

General Anxiety Disorder (GAD) Cause and Treatment

Article by Kathy

15 million Americans and countless others around the globe are affected by anxiety. Without treatment, anxiety can escalate into general anxiety disorder (GAD) and my eventually cause regular panic attacks. So what causes general anxiety disorder and how can you treat it before it escalates?

What is General Anxiety Disorder?Everyone has occasional bouts of anxiety, or anxious thought patterns. In contrast, GAD is a state of periodic and elevated anxiety, often characterized by excessive thinking and dwelling on the “what ifs”. As a result, you may feel that there’s no way out of the vicious cycle of anxiety and worry. You probably have general anxiety disorder if you have recurring anxiety, as opposed to occasional worry.

What happens when you have GAD?To illustrate how anxiety can escalate into GAD, I’ll use the analogy of a water faucet. If the faucet is working properly when turned off, we experience a relaxed home environment – which equates to a relatively anxiety-free existence. However, if the faucet has a leak and is dripping periodically, you could equate this disruptive dripping noise to that of someone with general anxiety.

Over time the pipe remains intact, however the leak gets worse. What was a minor disturbance can escalate into a loud, steady stream, which can no longer be ignored. This situation is how general anxiety disorder feels – it demands your attention. Worse yet, this unstable situation is a breeding ground for the pipe to burst – or in our analogy, for a panic attack to occur.

What causes GAD?General anxiety disorder is caused by recurring anxiety. The major causes of anxiety are:

Repressed emotionsA chemical imbalanceNutritional imbalancePhysical, mental or emotional exhaustion caused by stress

Steps you can take to eliminate General Anxiety DisorderOnce you know the causes of anxiety, you can work to reduce or eliminate anxiety entirely. Here are four steps that you can take to help eliminate GAD:

Educate yourself. There are many excellent holistic books and classes that help reduce or eliminate anxiety by teaching the principles of the mind-body-emotion connection, as well as anti-stress techniques.See a qualified medical professional to get a diagnosis in the event that you have a nutritional or chemical imbalance. You may want to do one or all of the following: a.) a blood screening, b.) a checkup with your physician, and c.) discuss your situation with a psychiatrist (Ph.D.) who understands medications. Your doctor can help you select the appropriate course of action if required.Meet with a therapist or support group, which can assist you by teaching healthy ways to deal with conflict, rather than repressing emotions. Therapy can also help with issues around physical, mental or emotional exhaustion, which are often at the root of anxiety. A therapist can give you strategies that create more life balance, time, and personal boundaries that support optimal health.Exercise as a Stress Reducer: Exercise produces the good hormones, such as endorphins, that keeping your mind and body balanced. Some people benefit from Yoga, a practice that incorporates relaxation techniques into exercise and movement. Whatever you choose, find something that you enjoy so that you stick with it. Many people (myself included) enjoy a daily walk as a great way to unwind and spend time outdoors.

The good news is that both general anxiety disorder and panic attacks respond well to treatment. It takes commitment to educate yourself, identify options and take action, but it is well worth the time and patience when you are rewarded with a better quality of life and a greater sense of peace. Panic Disorder Treatment Options

Panic Disorder Treatment Options

One has to face the fact that nobody, even the most successful person is not so self-assured and self-confident that he can declare that he has never felt panic ever, in his life. One of the natural progressions of life is that a person has to face some responsibility sometime and he might be confronted by situations in which he feels needless panic. This can either be a professional or a person of circumstance, sometime, somewhere, in his life.

A little bit of anxiety as well as panic can be considered to be a part of existence, but if one finds himself worrying consistently and constantly, over small matters, in such a manner that worrying takes over a major part of his daily existence, that is the time when he has to begin worrying whether he has crossed the border line between “normal worrying” and walked into the panic disorder area.

Nevertheless, one does not have to worry about another worry on his head, “am I panicking because I suffer from panic disorder?” There are plenty of treatments out there, for this particular disorder.

The panic disorder treatment options are going to be based upon which particular disorder the patient suffers from.

Is it edginess and tension, and worrying about trivial matters, the like which would not have affected him or his mental equilibrium, a couple of weeks ago? Does he find himself constantly gnawing his nails because something bad is going to happen, he knows something is wrong somewhere, even when there is no rhyme or reason for such a feeling to manifest itself?

This sort of obsession reaches the stage when one finds himself unable to take care of his professional and personal responsibilities.

And then it becomes a vicious circle because he begins to consider himself incapable of making the smallest decision properly. He loses all confidence in himself, and his judgment. He begins to panic even more. This is of course a chronic panic disorder symptom, but doctors are quite capable of treating such disorders.

First of all, the patient has to be assured that these irrational worries are totally baseless. If a person reaches the stage when he has done an action and still is in a panic because he needs to complete that action, then that is the stage when even doctors might start worrying about the symptoms shown by the patient.

A mild sort of obsessive behavior is normal in almost every person, because many people have a tendency of doing some particular actions in a particular way. They have the feeling that if they deviate from that systematic action line, something bad is going to happen. There comes a time when they follow this procedure superstitiously and subconsciously. This is a mild case of panic disorder. One does not need to go in for treatment such cases, unless every single action begins to be done in just that systematic manner. This can only be treated with the help of a doctor who is going to prescribe suitable relaxing activities and counseling.

There are people who do not take part in normal situations occurring in their daily life, because they get panic stricken. Deep breathing exercises can help if you find yourself getting panic stricken at the thought of meeting or facing new people. Talk over your problems with somebody or just write them down in a diary, and when you think you have crossed the line, see your doctor quickly to avoid having the problem get worse.

Modern Methods For Treating Anxiety Disorder

Modern Methods For Treating Anxiety Disorder

Article by J. Michael Key

Treating anxiety disorders can be a complex process requiring one or more of several different therapy approaches. Only sufferers of recurring anxiety attacks know the impact of anxiety on their lives and how badly they want and need treatment. The long-term psychiatric process of exploring a patient’s past experiences to discover the cause is expensive and in most cases not justified. Today there are several proven successful methods for treating anxiety disorders, many of which can achieve results in as few as 5 visits (sometimes even fewer).

Relatives and acquaintances can be cruelly non-supportive of anxiety sufferers. Telling a sufferer ‘you’re imagining it’ or ‘get over it’ probably is not going to be at all helpful. Such comments actually deepen a sufferer’s misery and make it harder to take the step toward treating anxiety disorder with professional help. With this non-support from other people the anxiety sufferer begins to feel there are no real options. They may believe that treatments are expensive, time consuming and relatively ineffective. This is not true. The miseries of anxiety are avoidable. Treatments take many forms and results can be rapid in many patients. There are some effective self-help programs available for minimal cost.

Most sufferers of anxiety try to treat their anxiety by self-medication, commonly with alcohol, or by avoiding the situations that trigger attacks. Avoidance can actually lead to an increase in anxiety issues and alcohol has its own consequences. As long an anxiety trigger can be well defined and avoiding it has limited impact on day-to-day life the avoidance can have limited success. When anxiety is not focused on a well defined trigger or when quality of life is being degraded professional help is recommended.

The opportunities for resolving anxiety issues are readily available and the success rates are excellent. There is no reason to avoid treating anxiety disorders. In today’s medication-prone society the pharmaceutical approach is too frequently the first or only treatment. Drugs are good for symptomatic treatment and as an adjunct to other treatments but shouldn’t be a long-term solution. Behavior-based treatments can provide long-term (or permanent) relief without the side effects of drugs.

Two basic forms of behavior treatment are in common use. Cognitive-behavior anxiety treatment revolves around teaching the sufferer to recognize both the detonators of their anxiety and the thinking that inevitably lead to the anxiety attack. The patient can develop (on their own or with professional guidance) strategies to break the thought chains and move beyond the anxiety.

Exposure therapy is probably the better known of the two primary behavior-based treatments. The misconceptions surrounding exposure therapy often prevent anxiety sufferers seeking this form of help. Naturally, if you are plagued by an irrational fear of snakes, you do not want to pay someone to place a snake in your hands. This is not the way exposure therapy operates. In professionally controlled environments and with full support of a therapist the exposure is increased gradually over successive treatments until the patient is able to recognize, understand and control the fear responses that turn into anxiety.

Medications have excellent results when added to early stages of behavior therapy. This is especially true with exposure therapy where the drugs help the patient enter the treatments with out an existing anxiety level. Non-specific anxiety disorders are difficult to treat with exposure therapy – for obvious reasons. This type of anxiety requires a more intense cognitive therapy with longer duration medication therapy.

Since anxiety disorders affect so many people, doctors and therapists are always looking for new and more effective ways of treating anxiety disorders. Recent successes have been reported using exercise, relaxation methods, hypnosis and bio-feedback. There are numerous options available to sufferers and even if the first or second approach is not 100% successful there are many more treatment strategies available.

Panic Disorder in Children

Panic Disorder in Children

Parents should show concern towards their children if they constantly complain that they are sick and do not want to go to school. Reluctance to go to school can exist at any time, but the most common age is between 5-7 years and 11-14, a time when children move from primary to secondary school. These children may experience paralyzing fear of leaving the protected environment of the parents. Children’s panic and refusal to attend school, can be a very difficult situation for parents. Go to school is usually a fun and entertaining act for most children. But for some it brings intense fear and panic attacks. This denial and behavior can be treated successfully by psychotherapy

Refusal to attend school may occur when children have spent longer at home with their parents – or holiday break from school due to illness. Then I created a greater closeness with parents. Failure may also occur in stressful situations such as death of a pet or a parent, change of school, and a change of residence.

The child may complain of headache, dry mouth, stomach pain – and that when the time comes to leave school. Complaint may be quiet immediately when the child understand that his remains in home. The condition can still be renewed the next day, just before the start of school. In some cases children directly say they will attend school and stay home.

Children who have been unreasonably afraid of school can show:

Insecurity, when standing alone in the room

Explode when required to attend school

Have abnormal behavior, highlighting the various arguments for not attending certain classes

Indicate an increased fear about the status of their parents and themselves

       Have nightmares

       Have difficulty falling asleep

Have fears about monsters and other fictional characters

They are afraid of the dark

Have fears of certain teachers, refusing to sit in their classes

Fear of classmates who mocked them

These symptoms are common to children who suffer from anxiety disorders. This situation could seriously affect the child, if it had not properly diagnosed and given the necessary assistance. In further life, it can completely change their behavior and develop symptoms that affect work and personal life. When fear goes, parents and psychologists in schools should have special care of the child. They must help the child to return to teaching in the short term, not to develop a stereotyped response, and begin to feel “different” from other children, and launch a bias isolation from them. In older age this behavior could develop into social phobia and problems in communication and treatment will now be much more complicated.

Refusal to attend school is a behavior that is treatable and would not leave consequences if discovered in time.

The basis of this behavior, experts suggest the presence of a disorder of attention / hyperactivity or attention deficit / dyslexia, Asperger syndrome and disorders dr. This parents perceive as laziness and disobedience by their children and thus condemn them to a very difficult deal the situation – on the one hand, children have difficulties hindering them to learn properly, and the other fearful of being punished for something they do not control. So develop severe depression and feel misunderstood and isolated from the world.
